Girls Need You Project

A campaign raising money to provide reusable Menstrual Kits for girls in Kenya.

Launched in partnership with A Better World Canada, we set out to raise $10,000 in March 2020.

Little did we know there was a global pandemic on the horizon.

We teamed up with 11 other local businesses all committed to helping us raise awareness and money for this cause. Each kit cost $10 and includes 2 pairs of underwear, 2 shields (these hold the liners in the underwear), 8 washable liners ("the pad"), soap, washcloth, instructions for use and washing, and a cloth bag that holds it all. By raising $10,000 this would provide 1000 kits to girls who need them!

Why it’s important:

Many girls are forced to miss school on the days of their menstrual cycle because they simply do not have access to the basic needs required to handle their periods. Many don't even have underwear. I'm sure we can all agree that this is outrageous! Together, we can change that!

By supplying these kits, we will encourage, empower and show support, giving these girls hope and dignity from across the world. Imagine for a minute how you would feel putting your life, schooling, and work on hold for one week each month. Bonus: In addition to supplying kits, we are also supporting a local female sewing co-operative in Kenya, giving these women employment and fair wages, which helps to provide for their families and their communities.

Where we are now:

WE ACHIEVED THAT GOAL! Despite the shutdowns, layoffs, closures, etc, we were able to raise enough awareness throughout the year that we succeeded in reaching our goal! With this money we’ve been able to supply and deliver 720 menstrual kits to the school-age girls in Kenya and we have an additional 400 kits in production that will be delivered in April 2021!

Now What?

What started as a small dream of supplying 1000 menstrual kits to girls in need has grown way beyond what we could have imagined and hoped for. With the support of other businesses and our community, the Project has grown and continues to expand into something bigger! We will keep raising money for this cause, and we have our sights set on creating more opportunities for these girls and their futures.
